Crossbody vs. Shoulder Bag: What’s the difference?

The crossbody bag and the shoulder bags are both versatile, stylish, and practical—but each has its own strengths. Which one do you like better?

What is a Crossbody Bag?
A crossbody bag has a long strap that goes across your body, usually resting on your opposite hip. This style is my favorite to wear. (This includes the “chest bag/Bum bag” where I wear it across my chest and rests closer to my rib cage) It’s loved for being:
Hands-free!: I like to pick up products when I browse and this keeps it close and doesn’t swing into the display. (Not that I’ve ever done that…)
Secure: Worn close to the body.
Comfortable for all-day wear: Weight is evenly distributed across your shoulder and torso.
Best for: Busy days, travel, outdoor markets, moms on the move, or anyone who needs both hands free. -
What is a Shoulder Bag?
A shoulder bag has a shorter strap meant to sit on one shoulder, with the bag tucked at your side or under your arm. This style is known for:
Easy access: Just slip it off your shoulder to reach inside.
Secure: It tucks under your arm also close to the body.
Stylish: Depending on the fabric or textile and pattern I choose, it can be seen as structured or flowing (like Boho style). I make more casual styles since I love denim and other up cycled textiles.
Roomier options: Many shoulder bags are larger, making them great for carrying extras.
Best for: Work, meetings, dinners, and everyday.
